Size of Cricket Stumps: Stumps are three vertical wooden poles with two bails on top of them in support. the stumps and bails are made up of wood and together they form a wicket on each end of the Pitch. According to the game of cricket, Stumps are the three wooden vertical posts on which bails are placed at top. Which collectively form the wicket in cricket. Stumps and bails in cricket are generally made up of wood which together forms a wicket on both side of the Cricket pitch.

Off Stump– The stump which is placed on the off side of the wicket is termed as the off stump

Middle Stump– Stump placed at the centre of the stumps or the centre most stump is called as Middle Stump.

Leg Stump– The Stump which is placed on the leg side or it can be called as on side or the side where batsman legs are the is called as Leg Stump.

In the game of cricket one more thing which one has to understood is that the name of the stumps are changed as per batsman batting style. For left hand batsman the leg stump of right handed batsman will be the off stump for left handed batsman. Like that, the leg stump of left hand batsman will be the off stump for the right handed batsman.

Portion of the stump above the playing surface area should be cylindrical in shape with circular section of diameter not less than 1.38 in/3.50 cm and not more than 1.5 in/3.81 cm.

In the trend of recent innovation nowadays zing bails are used on the top of stumps. In this whole package zing bails are placed on the top of three stumps and led lights are placed on the stump also. So that whenever bails are dislodged from the stumps the led light flash up and gives a signal of it.
These types of stumps and bails are designed to help umpires in run-out or stumping decisions and they also provide perfect view of the match. Led stumps were first used during ICC T20 world cup 2014.

In the game of cricket, stumps and bails are two important factors which are responsible for the dismissal of a batsman.

Stumps also play the important role in calling out days play by the umpires. As the umpires remove the bails from the stump. They called off the day’s play or the end of the session for lunch or tea.
