Domestic Career of Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma made his List A debut for West zone in March 2005 against Central zone in Deodhar Trophy. His amazing performance led to his selection in Indian team against Australia. He made his India A debut in the first class match against New Zealand.

Sharma made his Ranji Trophy debut in the year 2006-07 for the Mumbai team. He has been the captain of the team after the retirement of Ajit Agarkar. He has since then been playing Domestic Cricket for Mumbai.

His IPL career started with Deccan Chargers, in the very first season of Indian Premier League. The contract was for a huge price of $7,50,000. Although he was selected as a batsman, he showed his talent as a bowler too, taking a hat trick against Mumbai Indians. The very next year he was bought by Mumbai Indians and he has been playing for the franchise ever since then.

International Career of Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma made his debut for the Indian ODI team on 23 June 2007, against Ireland. Although he did not get a chance to play and was occasionally dropped from the team. He started opening Indian matches with Shikhar Dhawan and this bet became the second most successful gamble after Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

Sharma was never a test player, debuted in November 2013, he made his maiden century in his debut match. Although he made a century in the very next match he was dropped due to inconsistent performance in 2018-19, he was a part of the first ever team that won the Q test series against Australia.

Sharma debuted in T20 International in 2007, he was a part of the World Cup Winning International team. He made a century on 2nd October 2015, which made him the second cricketer to score a century in all three formats. In July 2015, he became the second batsman to score a century in 2,000 runs in T20 International cricket and fifth worldwide to do so.

Controversies of Rohit Sharma

In the 2015 World Cup quarter final match between India and Bangladesh, when Rubel Hussain took the wicket of Rohit Sharma, Pakistan’s umpire Aleem Dar adjudged Rubel’s full toss as waist heigh no ball. However, TV replay show that it was a real touch and go situation which could have gone either way. The very next day ICC president Mustafa Kamal who criticised poor umpiring, ICC however claimed that it was a 50-50 call and umpire’s  decision must be respected.
