He is an Indian opening batsman. Switching his role from wicket-keeping to opening batsman, his cricket journey is very amazing. He is also famous for his mustache and hairstyle. Due to his unique personality he is being called Gabbar. Shikhar is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional right-arm off break bowler. He is widely popular for his calm and composed but yet aggressive style of batting especially in ICC tournaments. At the 2015 ICC World Cup, he was the leading run scorer for India.

Shikhar Dhawan Early Life

He was born in a Punjabi Hindu family on 5 December 1985. He finished his schooling from St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School in Paschim Vihar, Delhi. After watching his cousin to play cricket, he developed his interest in cricket. He was trained under the guidance of coach Tarak Sinha. In the starting he was a wicket-keeper at the club but later he turned himself into an opening batsman. He scored a century in Under-15 tournament for the club.

Domestic Career of Shikhar Dhawan

He started his professional career with Delhi Under-16 in the 1999/2000 Vijay Merchant Trophy. He was the leading run scorer of the 2000/2001 Vijay Merchant Trophy. These two incredible seasons lead him for India ACC Under 17 Asia Cup. Averaging 85 in the Asia Cup from three games Shikhar Dhawan was subsequently drafted into the Delhi Under 19 team in October 2001 for the Cooch Behar Trophy.

IPL Career of Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar deputed in the IPL with Delhi Daredevils in 2008. The one made for half centuries and was third highest scorer for the team. However the management decided to trade him to the Mumbai Indians for Ashish Nehra. he played for Mumbai Indians in the next to season of IPL. Shikhar Dhawan was bought by Deccan Chargers for 3 L dollar in the fourth season. He was appointed captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team before the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 tournament, but he replaced by Darren Sammy as captain in the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The 2015 of Indian Premier League was disastrous for both Dhawan and Sunrisers. They bounce back to win the tournament in 2016. Shikhar Dhawan was bought in the 2018 IPL Auction, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 5.2 rupees Crore using their RDM. He was once again traded to Delhi capitals for the 2019 seasons.

International Career of Shikhar Dhawan

ODI Career

Shikhar Dhawan made his first International selection in October 2010, for a 3 match ODI series against Australia. He made his International debut in the 2nd ODI at Visakhapatnam on 20 October. Shikhar played his 100th ODI against South Africa team and also scored his 13th ODI century. He became the first batsman for India to score a century in his 100th ODI. Dhawan started opening the Indian innings with Rohit Sharma in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

T20 International Career

Shikhar made highest T20 International debut in June 2011 against West Indies on 4 June at port of Spain. In 2018 he scored the most runs in T20 International by any cricketer. He scored 689 runs in the calendar year and was also named in the ODI and T20 team of the Year 2018.

Test Career

Dhawan debut in February 2013 for Indian Test Squad for the fourth match series against Australia. He took over Sehwag from the third test and made at Mohali on 14th March. Shikhar scored the first century by any batsman on test debut. He reached the milestone in just 85 balls. Shikhar was finally dismissed for 187. He did not bat in India’s second inning as he suffered a hand injury while fielding during the fourth day. On 14th June 2018 against Afghanistan Dhawan became the only Indian and six overall batsman to have scored a century before lunch on the first day of a test match.
